Stourport Swifts 2, Dunkirk 0

Swifts made the perfect start to life in the new Midland Football League with a convincing 2-0 victory over Dunkirk.

And the only disappointment for manager Rod Brown is that his side didn’t add to their tally with a number of good chances going begging.

Stourport opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Karl Fellows fed Jamie Hyde down the left and his cross picked out Jon Griffin who fired a low drive beyond the Dunkirk keeper.

There should have been a second for the home side ten minutes later when Fellows put in a delightful cross for Lewis Pountney but his diving header flew just wide.

It took three minutes of the second half for Stourport to make it 2-0. The visitors failed to clear a set-piece and Kevin Spencer headed home.

That goal seemed to take the wind out of Dunkirk’s sails and midway through the half, following a good pass from Griffin, Alex Cowley produced some neat footwork before putting a shot just wide.

And it was a similar tale two minutes from time when Alex Savery picked out Griffin but his hit was the wrong side of the post.
