ROD Brown is hoping two exhausting FA Vase matches won’t affect Stourport Swifts ahead of their FA Cup game at Leek Town.

Swifts lost their epic Vase tussle against Bromsgrove Sporting after a replay.

On Saturday, Swifts had battled out a 2-2 draw with Sporting at Walshes Meadow, with Calvin Dinsley bagging a dramatic 90th minute equaliser.

In Tuesday’s replay, Swifts had to fight back as they fell 2-0 down before Michael McGrath and Jon Griffin hit the target to force extra-time at the Victoria Ground.

But their dreams of progress were shattered when Simon Fitter blasted in a fine last-gasp effort.

Brown said: “I was disappointed for the lads to be honest.

“They battled hard and we looked as though we might have won the game but Sporting scored a great goal.

“I won’t take anything away from Bromsgrove, who are a credit to their division.”

Now Stourport face a very tough FA Cup First Qualifying Round clash at high-flying Leek Town on Saturday (3pm ko).

Lee Caswell’s side are second in the Northern League Division One South.

Brown said: “We’ve played two very long tough games in a row so I am worried about Saturday’s clash.

“I have had them watched several times and Leek are a very good side.

“They will be favourites because they are a level above.

“But we’ll go there to dig in and hope that Leek aren’t playing at their best.”

Stourport go to Alvechurch in the Midlands Football Premier on Tuesday night (7.45pm ko).
