Stourport Swifts 3, Loughborough University 0

JOHN Griffin netted a goal in each half to ease Stourport to victory over their Leicestershire visitors.

But it was midfielder Karl Fellows who struck the goal of the game in the closing minutes to wrap up the points.

There were just six minutes on the clock when Griffin opened the scoring. Jamie Willets saw his shot saved by Jake Weekes but Gary Walker picked out the striker with the rebound and the Swifts frontman fired past the Loughborough keeper.

The visitors should have levelled midway through the half when they were awarded a penalty but Ben Ward-Cochrane’s spot kick was well saved by Brendan Bunn.

While the first half was fairly even, Stourport dominated the second period. Griffin headed a Jamie Willets cross wide on 64 minutes before substitute James Lemon headed an Ashley Parsons-Smith cross straight at keeper Weekes.

Griffin then fired against the crossbar before the Students crafted their only opening of the half, a Jack Poxon free-kick that was easily dealt with by Bunn in the home goal.

Two goals in the final five minutes finally settled the game. On 85 minutes, Griffin appeared to slip at the vital moment but regained his composure to steer the ball beyond Weekes.

And three minutes later it was Fellows who rounded things off with a delightful curled effort that nestled in the far top corner of the Students’ goal.
