Basford United 5, Stourport Swifts 0

SWIFTS suffered their worst defeat of the season as title hopefuls Basford put them to the sword.

The home side eased into a three-goal lead inside 20 minutes and then finished their visitors off with two more after the break.

Stuart Hendrie opened the scoring after just two minutes when he turned home an inch-perfect cross from Blair Anderson.

The home side were finding plenty of space out wide and on 15 minutes another cross was punished by Basford’s in-form strikeforce. This time it was Josh Thornton supplying the ammunition and Ruben Wiggins-Thomas who provided the finishing touch.

Fabian Smith made it 3-0 when he netted from the edge of the area while Stourport’s only real efforts of a disappointing 45 minutes were half chances for Lewis Pountney and John Griffin which failed to trouble the keeper.

Pountney steered an effort wide at the start of the second period before Basford again took control.

Hendrie bagged his second of the game on 56 minutes before Aaron Webster latched on to a long ball out of defence to complete the scoring.

Griffin squandered a chance to grab a late consolation when he failed to hit the target following good work out wide by Ashley Parsons-Smith.
