Coventry Sphinx 0, Stourport Swifts 0

SWIFTS had to settle for a share of the points in this mid-table tussle.

And although the game struggled to get out of third game, both sides had chances to snatch victory in the closing stages.

Stourport’s best chance of the opening half fell to John Griffin on 15 minutes but he was denied by the crossbar.

Sphinx also had chances but failed to find a way past Brendan Bunn in the visitors goals.

The second period followed a similar pattern with both defences on top, Swifts missing the creative midfield presence of the suspended Calvin Dinsley.

With ten minutes remaining, Lewis Pountney had a glorious chance to break the deadlock but his diving header flew the wrong side of the target.

And that near miss appeared to spur the home side on and Luke Downs twice went close to hitting a late winner.

Rod Brown’s Stourport are back in action on Wednesday when they head to Continental Star – their fourth away match in a row.
