STOURPORT Swifts continued their surge up the Midland League Premier Division after pulling off a 2-1 win over high flying Lye Town.

Having kept an impressive Lye at bay in the first half, Swifts went onto seal the points with goals from John Griffin and 17 year old former Kidderminster Harriers Academy prospect Dean Waldron who was only making his second start for Swifts.

A late Lye goal failed to alter the outcome as Swifts now climb to fifth spot, much to the delight of manager Rod Brown who claimed: "Lye are a very good side and started like a house on fire and we had to be very tactical.

"The second half saw us create numerous chances and perhaps we should have scored more.

"We're on a nice run of form at the moment and showing some consistency, but we've got some very difficult fixtures coming up, starting on Saturday against Boldmere St Michaels.

"I've always said we'll look at where we are at Christmas, but the important thing is that once you've got the framework in place, even if you are missing players, it means you don't have to make wholesale changes.

"Throughout our recent run of form, I've never had a full squad to select from and sometimes I've only had two substitutes available. But the squad is gelling together nicely, however, I will be missing key players again at the weekend.

"Striker Lewis Pountney has work commitments, which I knew about and Danny Walker will be serving a one match ban. But there's a possibility that Paul Hurrell could return after injury."
