Stourport Swifts 1, Westfields 1

SWIFTS missed out on finishing the year in fifth spot following this hard fought contest with Westfields.

A promising start saw John Griffin combine with Ashley Parsons-Smith whose goalbound shot was pushed around the post by Westfields goalkeeper Matt Gwynne after seven minutes.

But Swifts were forced to breath a sigh of relief when Kevin Spencer conceded a free kick which resulted with Westfields' John Cuss cracking a shot against the post.

Worse followed when Swifts conceded a penalty, Spencer again the culprit allowing Craig Jones to convert in the 49th minute after sending goalkeeper Brendan Bunn the wrong way.

His brother Robbie Bunn went close to repairing the damage 10 minutes later when he fired just wide from the edge of the box.

But Swifts did manage to level on 71 minutes, Ben Maund combining nicely with Jamie Hyde, whose cross was pounced upon by Lewis Pountney to volley home.

Swifts were handed a belated chance to win the game on 88 minutes when Westfields Joel Edwards brought down substitute Luke Morris when clean through on goal.

Edwards was duly sent off but Swifts were unable to capitalise on the resulting free kick.

The result means Swifts remain seventh in the table and now face a tricky trip to Walsall Wood on New Year's Day.
