ROD Brown is set to unleash Luke Corbett on Walsall Wood in Stourport Swifts’ New Year’s day clash.

The former Leamington hitman has been training with the Walshes Meadow while he recovers from a long term injury.

Swifts boss Brown is keen to bolster his side’s quotient of goals and take the pressure off Jon Griffin and Lewis Pountney, who have scored 14 and eight goals respectively.

Stourport are the lowest scorers in the Midlands Football Premier with just 38 goals in 23 games.

Corbett comes with an impressive record, having scored 21 goals in 39 appearances between 2008-11 and 20 in 37 games for Bishops Cleeve.

“Luke’s got some games under his belt at Perry Wood and Malvern so hopefully he will play some part against Walsall Wood.

“To be fair, Jon Griffin is a very good player.

“He’s a bit low on confidence and Lewis scored recently, so with Luke as well we have three very good strikers.”

Swifts have suffered a setback with Dean Waldron joining Worcester and James Lemon teaming up with Worcester City youth team boss Mark Owen at Droitwich Spa FC.

Michael Briscoe returns from suspension but Jamie Willetts is absent.

Understrength Stourport were held to a 1-1 draw by Westfields on Saturday.

They were trailing to a Craig Jones penalty but But Swifts did manage to level on 71 minutes, Ben Maund combining nicely with Jamie Hyde, whose cross was pounced upon by Pountney to volley home.

Brown added: “A draw was about right.

“We were missing a few players and had to change the system.”

Stourport go into 2015 in seventh-place in the league after an solid first half of the season.

“We could be a few places higher in the table but overall I think we’re in a decent position and will be looking to push on in 2015,” said the manager.
