CHAIRMAN Chris Reynolds believes Stourport Swifts can still finish in the Midlands Premier’s top five.

The Walshes Meadow outfit ended their three-game winless run by defeating Causeway United 2-0 in the Black Country on Saturday.

Goals for Kevin Spencer and substitute Luke Corbett ensured Swifts picked up three points for the first time since December 20.

Victory means Swifts are seventh in the league and while the top two sides, Long Eaton and Lye Town have healthy leads over Stourport, they can secure a top five spot at the end of the season.

Reynolds said: “I don’t think we can do anything particularly special this season but I do think we can finish in the five.

“It has been a funny season but it was good to get back on track after struggling in the last few games.”

Stourport face a Long Eaton side who are building a lead at the top of the table and have lost just one game in the last nine.

The Station Road side have tasted defeat just three times and will provide a tough test for Swifts.

But Rod Brown’s side will have been buoyed by their last game against Saturday’s rivals. John Griffin scored an early goal as Swifts matched their opponents before being edged out 2-1.

Reynolds added: “The first time we met was actually a good performance so we go into the game with hope.”

Swifts will be without the injured and suspended Karl Fellows and striker Lewis Pountney.

But Brown is also closing in on AFC Hinckley striker Matthew Gardener.

The hitman has bagged 26 goals this season, with nine for Causeway and 17 for Hinckley.

Swifts are second lowest goal-scorers in the ten top, despite Griffin bagging 14 so far this season, while Pountney has bagged ten.

Brown will be hoping the prolific forward will be able to hand his side a boost in the part of the season.
