Dunkirk 0, Stourport Swifts 2

Swifts returned from Nottinghamshire with maximum points, strike pair John Griffin and Rory Curtis bagging the goals.

And the winning margin could have been far greater had it not been for Dunkirk keeper Jake Want who pulled off a number of top saves to keep the tally down.

The early stages saw both sides go close to making the breakthrough.

On 25 minutes Brandon Gwinnutt carved open the Swifts defence but his shot was turned away by Brendan Bunn in the visitors’ goal. Moments later, Lewis Pountney went close at the other end only for Want to deny him.

The deadlock was finally broken ten minutes before half-time when Griffin latched on to a long ball forward and his excellent finish gave the Dunkirk keeper no chance.

There was almost a second for the striker before the interval but this time Want denied him with a great low save.

The keeper was in action again midway through the second half when Pountney let fly with a fierce drive. He parried the shot and when Griffin pounced on the rebound, a defender was on hand to clear off the line.

Dunkirk’s best chance to level came ten minutes from time when substitute Carl Spencer looked to have found the roof of the net only for Bunn to tip the effort over the crossbar.

And that proved costly when Swifts wrapped up the points in injury time, substitute Rory Curtis breaking clear before calmly placing the ball beyond the impressive home keeper.

Swifts: Bunn 8, Hurrell 7, Hyde 7 (Scheppel 89), WILLETTS 8, Briscoe 8, Walker 7, Hickman 6 (Beaumont 80), Parsons-Smith 7, Pountney 7 (Curtis 85), Griffin 6, Maund 6.
