SORRY Stourport Swifts lost interest in this season's Midland Football League's Polymac Packaging Premier Division League Cup competition after crashing 1-0 to Hereford side Westfields at Walshes Meadow.

In what proved a real lack lustre display, Swifts looked a far cry from the side which picked up a 2-0 win at Nottingham side Dunkirk at the weekend.

What made Swifts' exit all the more dismal was the fact they had already knocked out current league leaders Lye Town and powerful AFC Wulfrunians in previous rounds, but with a place in the semi-finals beckoning, Swifts fell well short.

In what proved a completely forgettable affair from Swifts' point of view, Rod Brown's boys fell behind on 23 minutes when Westfield striker Marcus Palmer pounced to win possession in the middle of the park before powering through unmarked to fire home past goalkeeper Brendan Bunn.

There were precious few chances throughout the game, although Swifts did squander a wonderful opportunity to get back on level terms later in the first half when John Griffin headed over from little more than a yard out when it seemed easier to score.

Swifts spokesman Chris Reynolds revealed: "It was a really poor performance. Apart from the goal, neither side created much. There were three or four goalmouth scrambles, but in truth, this was a terrible game with little to recommend it."

Boss Brown will be looking for a marked improvement this Saturday when Swifts entertain Shepshed Dynamo in the league.
