STOURPORT Swifts chairman Chris Reynolds is hoping to name a new manager next week.

Reynolds is currently at the interview stage and wants to announce Rod Brown’s successor as soon as possible.

Rod Brown’s former assistant and current caretaker boss Dave Connell has withdrew his application for the role.

“Dave has been brilliant for us but he’s had a think about it and doesn’t want to commit to everything the job entails. That’s fair enough, this actually helps clarify the situation.”

Meanwhile, Stourport’s wretched home form continued as they were beaten by lowly Brocton 3-1 on Saturday in the Midlands Premier and had defender Jamie Willets sent off in the process.

Swifts last won at Walshes Meadow back in November and their dismal form has seen them slide down the table.

Brocton took just four minutes to open the scoring, Gary Fife pouncing on a poor clearance from home keeper Brendan Bunn and firing the ball back into the net from 25 yards.

Stourport levelled five minutes before the interval through John Griffin, who also had a penalty saved.

And those missed opportunities proved vital as the visitors went on to take the points.

The visitors regained the lead on 69 minutes when Carl Morris fed the nippy Sam Bell whose shot found the back of the net via the upright.

And Brocton made sure of victory four minutes from time when youngster Josh Wilson calmly made it 3-1.

To compound the situation, Willets saw red soon after when he picked up a second booking.

Swifts entertain Coventry Copsewood on Saturday (3pm ko) and go to Westfields on Tuesday (7.45pm ko).
