Brown believes Swifts have the momentum
9:30pm Thursday 19th April 2012 in Stourport Swifts
STOURPORT Swifts boss Rod Brown believes his side go into the final two games of the season with momentum and high spirits on the agenda, writes Jack McCaughtrie.
Swifts showed desire to fight back from 4-1 down on Saturday to finish 4-3 at promotion-chasing Gosport Borough in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West.
They will now be looking to maintain the momentum at Didcot Town this weekend (3pm kick-off) and Mangotsfield United on April 28 in the final game of the season.
Brown said: “We have had a really good spell since January, we have competed and been in every game which I am really pleased about.
“To be honest I don’t want the season to end as we have put in some great performances and we need it to carry on.
“For the team it is important we get two positive results to finish our season off going into the summer so that we finish on a high note.”
Brown is hopeful the squad can stay together to have a better season next year.
“If I had started the season with the squad of players I have now we wouldn’t be in this situation,” added the manager.
“We brought in some experience in January and I have been happy with the way we have played.
“We have got a good foundation here to build on.
“I am looking to bring in three or four players to help the lads that we have already got here.”
The manager commended his team on the fighting spirit they showed on against second placed Gosport even after conceding four goals.
Tim Jackson had levelled the scores but Borough had taken a 4-1 lead into the final 10 minutes, before Lewis Pountney and Calvin Dinsley almost salvaged a point.
“Overall the lads did well, even though the goals we conceded were sloppy and that has been our Achilles heel this season,” Brown said.
“We gave ourselves an uphill task but I was really pleased with how we turned the corner to come back.”
Stourport currently lie in the one relegation place and are due to drop into the Midlands Alliance.
