Swifts round off season with a win
11:40pm Sunday 29th April 2012 in Stourport Swifts
Stourport Swifts 2, Mangotsfield United 1
Stourport finished their season on a high with victory over their West Country visitors.
There was an early chance for Louis Bridges but his effort was cleared off the line by United’s Gary Colborne.
The breakthrough came midway through the half when Bridges created space down the left and put in a low cross which Calvin Dinsley converted from 12 yards.
That was how it remained until the 64th minute when Jake Slocombe latched on to a loose ball 20 yards out and his shot was deflected beyond the reach of Swifts keeper Haydn Whitcombe.
But Stourport’s response was instant and thy regained the lead within three minutes when Bridges intercepted the keeper’s pass to defender Tom Parrinello and the striker lobbed the ball home.
Lewis Parker missed a good chance to level tem minutes from time when he fired over from in front of goal.
But the Mangotsfield challenge ended when they had midfielder Kyle Tooze sent off five minutes from time for two bookable offences.
