Brown forced to play waiting game

SWIFTS manager Rod Brown admits he’s playing a waiting game as he tries to strengthen the squad for the 2012-13 campaign.

Brown is keen to bring in several new faces and bolster his squad after they finished bottom of the Soutbern League Division One South and West.

The manager has been talking to eight players but admits with other clubs also searching for fresh blood, he will have to be patient.

He said: “I have spoken to seven or eight players about joining us.

“We’ll see what happens. I had two lads who said they wanted to come and then they both called me back saying some other clubs were interesting and they wanted to talk to them as well.

“I’ve got another on holiday who won’t be able to let me know his decision until the end of the month.

“But I have several other players I am hoping to bring in.

“I always try and act fast to get players in when the season ends and I am sure we will bring a few of our targets in.”

Meanwhile, the Walshes Meadow outfit look set to learn if they will be relegated into the Midlands Alliance in the next month or so.

Officials will meet up with their counterparts from other leagues and the FA to discuss relegation and promotion.

However, Brown remains hopeful Swifts can earn a reprieve because of unforeseen circumstances.

He said: “There’s so much going on above and below us I still believe there’s a chance we won’t go down.”
