WORCESTER Warriors have completed the permanent signing of talented USA international Joe Taufete’e.

Having initially joined the club on a short-term deal in December, the hooker has made five appearances which included his maiden try against Harlequins at Sixways in January.

The former American Football player made the switch to Rugby Union in 2011 and enjoyed stints at Belmont Shore RFC in USA and Otorohanga RFC in New Zealand before earning a professional contract at USA PRO Rugby’s San Diego Breakers.

Taufete’e made his international debut for USA against South Africa at the 2015 Rugby World Cup and has gone on to make nine appearances for the Eagles, scoring three tries.

The 24-year-old also captained the USA Rugby Selects at the Americas Pacific Challenge developmental tournament in Uruguay last year.

Warriors director of rugby Gary Gold said: “Joe has grabbed his opportunity with both hands in the cup competitions and has been rewarded with a call-up to our Premiership squad.

“His work-rate has been tremendous and in his handful of appearances so far, he has looked a real threat with ball in hand while impressing at the set-piece.

“Hopefully he will continue to develop in the current environment and we look forward to seeing how far he can progress with his game.”

Taufete’e added: “I’ve quickly warmed to life at Warriors where there are a great bunch of players.

“It’s been great to get on the field and I’m looking forward to showing more of what I can do in the near future.

“I feel blessed to get this opportunity and I’d like to thank my wife for allowing me to chase this dream.”
