FLANKER Sam Lewis admits Worcester Warriors will “miss” Leicester Tigers bound-David Denton when he leaves in the summer.

After just one season at the club, Scotland international Denton will depart and join Tigers ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Lewis has teamed up with Denton regularly in the back row and admitted the 28-year-old had made a “massive impact” at Sixways.

But Denton is now poised to join up with his fellow departing Warriors teammate Will Spencer who will also make the move to Welford Road.

“I will be disappointed to see Dave go,” said Lewis who committed his future to Worcester by penning a new deal in November.

“But he has made that decision and we wish him all the best.

“He has been great for us since we signed him. He has picked up numerous awards at the club and has been called up by Scotland.

“We are going to miss him.

“He has made a massive impact this year.

“I am sure he will do great wherever he goes and I am sure we will make some good signings as well.”

Denton, who has made 14 appearances for Warriors since joining them Bath, said he was “really excited” to be joining Tigers.

“The club has a rich and celebrated history as well as a squad that is very capable of winning more trophies over the next few years,” he added.

Denton first came to prominence at Edinburgh before moving to the Premiership in 2015, signing for Bath and then Worcester.

He has won 36 caps for Scotland since his debut in the build-up to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

And Tigers head coach Matt O’Connor said he was looking forward to working with Denton.

“We’re delighted that David has agreed to come to Leicester,” O’Connor said.

“He is a top-quality player with a lot of experience at the highest level and we still think there is more improvement to come in his game.

“He has a useful skillset in possession, he is a physical player, he is a good age profile for us. He is just the kind of player we’ve been looking to add to our options in the forward pack.”
