GERRIT-Jan van Velze has been reappointed as captain of Worcester Warriors ahead of the 2018-19 Premiership campaign.

The 30-year-old number eight skippered Warriors for three seasons before handing over the responsibility to Donncha O’Callaghan last summer.

But van Velze who led Worcester to promotion from the Championship in 2015 will now succeed O’Callaghan who hung up his boots in May.

The South African missed almost the entire 2016-17 campaign with concussion sustained in the opening league game against Saracens.

But he came back fighting last season as he made 24 starts – 20 of those coming in the Premiership – and often stepped in to lead the team.
