STRESSING players by training in a “chaotic environment” over the next month “will translate” into better performances on the pitch, insists Worcester Warriors head coach Carl Hogg.

The Warriors chief believes “higher intensity” training will help reduce “individual errors” when the strugglers return to Aviva Premiership action against Saracens at Sixways in February.

Warriors are second-from-bottom in the top tier with just two league wins this term.

They will aim to bounce back from their dismal performance in last Saturday’s 55-19 drubbing at M5 rivals Gloucester.

“I think there were individual errors (at Gloucester) and one of the things we are going to address over the next month is the way we train,” said Hogg.

“We will try to train at a higher intensity to stress the players because system-wise we look pretty strong when the pace of the game is at a certain level.

“However, when the game gets intense or fast on us we make individual errors or poor decisions so we are trying to replicate that high intensity in training and I am sure that will translate to the field.

“The game nowadays is played in chaos and you have to train in a chaotic environment so people are stressed and have to make smart decisions and execute under levels of pressure and intensity.”

Warriors take a break from league action and travel to France on Saturday to face Pool Three leaders Brive in the European Challenge Cup on Saturday.

Worcester are bottom of the pool with just one win from four games but will be fielding a “more senior squad” than in previous outings in the competition this term.

“We’ve still got one or two people out through injury but it will be a more senior squad than it has been previously in Europe,” explained Hogg.

“Consistency is the key. We have always been pretty competitive at home but we’ve struggled on the road and that’s something we need to address and quickly.

“It’s about the character and fighting spirit within the group because everyone is hurting after last weekend."

Hogg added: “We need to build confidence and performances and it won’t happen overnight.

"But we have got to get some foundation blocks which will take us forward over the next month and then springboard us forward.

"Winning a few line-outs doesn’t make right what happened last weekend.”
