VERSATILE back Ryan Mills has vowed to put right “some wrongs” in Worcester Warriors’ European Challenge Cup clash against Brive tomorrow (8pm GMT).

The former Gloucester player wants “another chance to perform” after disappointing in Warriors’ 55-19 Aviva Premiership thrashing by his former club at Kingsholm last Saturday.

Supporters are desperate to see Warriors put up a fight in France, particularly with the club gearing up for a battle to save their Premiership status.

Mills has been named on the bench as Warriors seek a win which could keep alive their hopes of progressing from Pool Three.

“I would like to get out there, right some wrongs on the pitch and have another chance to perform,” said Mills who has started two top-tier matches at stand-off this term.

“I haven’t played a lot of rugby this season so I am looking forward to getting out on the pitch as much as I can.”

Warriors still harbour slim hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals of Europe but are bottom of the pool with just two matches remaining.

Worcester opened their European campaign with a 19-12 defeat at Russian minnows Enisei-STM and lost 22-7 at Newport Gwent Dragons last month in their other away match in the pool.

Warriors’ away form has been their Achilles heel since securing promotion from the Championship in May 2015.

Worcester have won just twice on their travels — at Newcastle Falcons and Harlequins — in all competitions.

Reflecting on last weekend’s league defeat against Gloucester, Mills said: “If you looked at all of their tries, they came directly from our errors.

“Three of their tries came from our attacking areas and turnovers and two from defensive mistakes, one of which was mine.

“They are things we can control. We are confident with the way we defend and have shown we can defend teams for long periods of time.

“You look at Harlequins, one of the best attacking teams in the league, and they had nothing against us for large amounts of the game.”

Mills is a big fan of Warriors’ synthetic surface at Sixways.

“Our pitch is massively geared up towards the way we want to play,” said Mills. “We struggled on that type (heavy) of pitch (at Gloucester).

“We’ve played well at every home game and been able to put a brand of rugby on the pitch.

“In the Quins game for the first 60 minutes especially, they barely touched the ball and that was largely down to how we kept hold of it and moved it around.

“That’s something we want to get on the pitch. We struggled against Gloucester and could not fall back onto a plan B.

“It felt like we were in a good place going into the game because training had been pretty decent so it was frustrating not to be able to put it in on the pitch.”

Mills added: “We started really poorly with three or four errors in a row which let Gloucester get ahead and we didn’t execute the chances we had.

"We made double the line-breaks that Gloucester did and didn’t execute any of them so it was really frustrating and disappointing.”
