FORMER Worcester Warriors stalwart Alex Grove made a surprise comeback to help them lift the London Floodlit Sevens title at Rosslyn Park.

Grove left Warriors at the end of last season after 153 first-team appearances in a successful 10-year stint at Sixways.

But Grove, who is joining Coventry from Birmingham-Moseley this summer, turned out for Warriors in last night’s tournament triumph.

Scrum-half Jonny Arr, versatile back Ben Howard and departing duo Tiff Eden and Connor Braid were also part of Warriors’ squad which was a mixture of youth and experience.

Bath, Bristol, Esher, London Irish and the Army were among the clubs involved in the competition.

Coached by academy backs development coach Gordon Ross and departing wing Tom Biggs, Warriors narrowly lost their first group game to Loughborough Students before beating Gloucester to make the semi-finals.

They then defeated hosts Rosslyn Park in the semis before a thumping win over Harlequins in the final.

Ross said: "We played some tremendous Sevens rugby and it was awesome for the group to win the competition.

"There's a real feel-good factor around the place and it was a nice send-off for a couple of the boys who are leaving the club at the end of the season."
