YOUNG Worcester Warriors forward Tom Fawcett helped England to a silver medal finish at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The sevens side lost to Samoa 10-5 in the gold medal match despite a strong display at Queen Elizabeth Sporting Complex.

Fawcett, 17, was part of Warriors' under 18 side who made it to the Premiership Rugby Under 18 Academy Finals Day where they beat Saracens.

Warriors academy forwards transition coach Mike Hill said: "As a club we're extremely proud of Tom and what he's achieved with England.

"He's a talented young player and we're looking forward to seeing more of him in the new season."

The Warwick School student was named in a 12-man squad who travelled to the Bahamas for the major championships.

After losing 19-7 to Samoa, England beat Canada 26-10, Bahamas 72-0, Sri Lanka 32-5 and Fiji 26-19.

In the final, an early try from Vasui in the corner put Samoa in the ascendancy.

If it had not been for some tight English defence, he would have scored a second on the stroke of half-time.

Frank claimed another try for the Pacific Islanders moments into the second period before a spirited fightback from England gave them a glimmer of hope.

Oliver Sleightholme was the benefactor as he dotted down in the corner after receiving quick ball following a penalty against Samoa for offside.

The missed conversion made it a five-point game, but the score proved too late for England, confirming a silver medal.
