WORCESTER Warriors are gearing up for another pulsating clash of attacking rugby when they meet Harlequins at The Stoop tomorrow (3pm).

The two sides produced an 11-try thriller in the Aviva Premiership two weeks ago with Quins winning 41-35.

And backs coach Sam Vesty is anticipating a similar “fast-paced” encounter in the Anglo-Welsh Cup despite fielding vastly-different teams.

Vesty says he is relishing the prospect of a try-fest but insists Warriors will need to be “sharper” defensively and be one step ahead of Quins to come away victorious.

“I like watching an open game of rugby,” Vesty said.

“My little boy played in a game that was 52-50 last weekend.

“But I also like to see good rugby and I think when we play well we make good decisions so whether that’s to attack, put the ball in behind or to be a bit more conservative that’s what we will look to do.”

Warriors let slip an 18-10 lead at Quins to fall 38-18 behind before producing a late fightback to secure two losing bonus points.

“I think it has the capabilities to be like that (the last game we played against them),” Vesty continued.

“In the match a couple of weeks ago we did some really good things but when they got the ball we just needed to be a bit sharper and tighter to stop them from taking their chances.

“This time we are focusing on keeping a bit more structure to our game and take the speed out of their attack.

“They like to keep the game tempo really high so we will need to slow the breakdown up and make sure we are in position to stop them from taking quick lineouts.

“We have to be ready before they are when there is a turnover or a penalty.”

Warriors went down 24-21 at home to Sale Sharks in the opening game of the competition while Harlequins clinched a dramatic 30-29 win at Saracens last weekend.

“Quins are doing well in this competition and their A League team are top of the southern section as well,” Vesty added.

“I think the (final third) will be a very important area of the pitch for us. Once you get in there you have got to come away with points.

“Certainly in the Sale game we didn’t do that whereas at Quins the week before we did do that pretty well.

“For this team that’s something we have looked at this week.

“Hopefully when we get into that zone we will keep our foot on their throats and come away with something.”
