Warriors faithful's anger at final venue

WARRIORS fans have reacted angrily to the European Rugby Cup's (ERC) decision to play the European Challenge Cup final at Gloucester's 16,500-capacity Kingsholm stadium.

Worcester and Bath have received 7,000 tickets each for the final but, with both sides having around 6,000 season ticket holders, regular fans are worried they'll miss out.

Debenture and season ticket-holders will be given priority booking for the game, followed by supporters who have quarter-final and semi-final ticket stubs. After that, the remaining tickets will go on general sale.

Your Worcester News has been inundated with letters and e-mails - as well as comments on our website worcesternews.co.uk - from concerned Warriors supporters.

Clive Smith e-mailed us to say he feels the decision to play the game at Kingsholm was ridiculous'.

He said: "Frankly Kingsholm, a famous old ground that it is, is simply too small and cramped. I would strongly urge the ERC to reconsider for the sake of both sets of supporters."

Chris Hurdiss added: "Surely the fact that Worcester's attendance alone is around 10,000 is enough for reconsideration.

"Why couldn't both games be played at the same stadium with 12pm and 3pm kick-offs? What a magnificent spectacle and showcase for our game that would have been."

Clayton and astocker2007, who commented on the story via our website, felt the ERC had made the wrong decision.

Clayton said: "The ERC has made a huge mistake - Kingsholm is too small for a final.

"Worcester have got a huge fanbase and only a few thousand can go. I hope it will be great game though. Come on Worcester!"

Thoughts echoed by astocker2007, who added: "Many of us - the fans - are being let down. If they had any sense, they would hold the European Challenge Cup final before the Heineken Cup final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

"Just think of the sales in tickets - more tickets means more money!"
