Warriors roar back to edge out Bristol

WORCESTER Warriors completed a thrilling 22-21 Guinness Premiership success at Bristol.

Despite outscoring the home side by three tries to none, Warriors were trailing for much of the match.

It was the boot of Jason Strange that gave Bristol the edge, kicking seven out of eight penalties, but Worcester were not to be denied and they roared back from 21-12 down to win by a single point.

Miles Benjamin, Sam Tuitupou and Rico Gear crossed for the Warriors' tries, while Joey Carlisle kicked one of two coversion attempts but also missed three penalties.

The young fly-half was replaced by Shane Drahm in the second-half and the Aussie converted Gear's try and also kicked the vital 72nd minute penalty that gave Worcester their victory.

There was more frustration for Worcestershire cricket fans, however.

After the weather curtailed two recent winning positions for the County, a double century from Northamptonshire's Nicky Boje proved decisive in the LV Championship Division Two match at Wantage Road.

The Worcestershire attack was unable to press home the advantage of a first innings lead of 232 as Boje reached an unbeaten 226 with Northants ending the match on 514-5.

Hereford United completed a fine Coca-Cola League Two season on a winning note when they beat Grimsby Town 2-0 at Edgar Street.

The Bulls, happy in the knowledge they had already clinched promotion, wrapped up the points with two first-half goals from Ben Smith and Theo Robinson.
