WORCESTERSHIRE supporters missed out on the chance to watch Joe Clarke bat as Tom Westley hit a century for England Lions in the drawn tourist game with South Africa at New Road.

Clarke was due to come to the middle at number seven in a powerful Lions batting line-up including Keaton Jennings and Gary Ballance who were selected for the first Investec Test against the Proteas at Lord's.

But the Lions only lost four wickets as Westley struck 19 boundaries in reaching three figures off 146 balls.

By the close they had reached 266-4 from 80 overs in reply to South Africa's 382-4 declared in a fixture severely curtailed by the weather on the opening two days.

The sun shone on the third day and Essex batsman Tom Westley entertained the weekend crowd.

Openers Sam Robson and Jennings put on 71 before the latter pushed forward on 39 to Morne Morkel and lost his off stump.

His dismissal brought in Westley who produced a fluent innings and added 55 with Robson who then nicked Chris Morris through to keeper Quinto de Kock.

Ballance's innings was a patient affair and he needed 129 balls to bring up his half-century with five boundaries.

A single off spinner Keshav Maharaj took Westley to his century and he ended unbeaten on 106.

The game ended shortly after Theunis de Bruyn trapped Ballance (56) and Sam Billings (2) lbw in the same over.
