SKIPPER Joe Leach remains Worcestershire's best placed player in the latest Professional Cricketers' Association Overall Most Valuable Players rankings for 2017.

The all-rounder is lying in nine position with a total of 279 points at an average of 13.93.

Leach is the joint leading wicket-taker in Division Two of the Specsavers County Championship with 44 victims.

Opener Daryl Mitchell is next in line in 19th spot with 242 points at an average of 13.46.

Ben Cox's career-best 124 not out in rescuing Worcestershire in the first innings of the Championship match with Gloucestershire at Cheltenham has helped to propel him up to 42nd position with 196 points at 9.80.

The overall leader is Surrey's Kumar Sangakkara on 371 points (average 20.61) followed by Kent's Darren Stevens (326 at 18.11).
