CALLUM Ferguson will skipper Worcestershire Rapids in Sunday’s Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final with Kent Spitfires at Blackfinch New Road (11am).

Rapids head coach Kevin Sharp has confirmed Ferguson will lead the side in the absence of Joe Leach.

The 33-year-old has plenty of experience of captaincy in white-ball cricket and playing in big-match situations.

Ferguson was named skipper of South Australia for the 2016-2017 Matador BBQs One-Day Cup in the absence of Travis Head who was on international duty.

He was also selected as captain 12 months later by South Australia for the JLT One-Day Cup, again with Head on duty with his country.

Ferguson showed his ability to deliver when the pressure was on by scoring 169 against Western Australia in the deciding group game to seal a place in the finals.

He has vast knowledge to call upon and has been playing for South Australia for 14 years.

Ferguson has also appeared in the Big Bash for Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder.

He also experienced a spell in the Indian Premier League with Pune Warriors.

Leach is ruled out of Sunday’s semi-final and for the remainder of the 2018 season with a stress fracture of the back.
