DIRECTOR of basketball Paul James feels Worcester Wolves let themselves down as an attacking threat despite victory over Leeds Force.

Wolves rounded off 2014 with Sunday’s low-scoring 68-58 win against the Yorkshire strugglers at the University Arena to ensure they head into the new year sitting second in the British League.

But it was the first time Worcester, who have been without towering centre Robert Thurman for the last three games because of an ankle injury, have failed to break 70 points this season.

James said: “It was a scrappy, sluggish game. I was pleased with our defensive effort in holding Leeds down to just 58 points, but we could have been a lot slicker offensively. In the end we did enough to get the win.”

Forward Jamal Williams was Wolves’ top-scorer with 18 points, supported by a double-double of statistics from point guard Chavis Holmes, who scored 14 points and gathered 12 rebounds.

Worcester start 2015 with a trip to Plymouth Raiders on Sunday before taking on table-toppers Newcastle Eagles at the University Arena on Friday, January 9.
