WORCESTER Wolves could have a new addition to their ranks in time for Friday’s British Basketball League clash against leaders Newcastle Eagles.

The University Arena club have been scouring the globe for players since Lithuanian centre Donatas Visockis left in November.

Head coach Paul James brought in the versatile Paul Guede last month and is searching for one more recruit, either a centre or power forward.

He said: “We’re getting close and looking at a couple of options right now. It’s just deciding which one we’re going to go for.

“There’s an outside chance of getting somebody here for the Newcastle game but, if not, certainly next week.”

The new signing would take the number of players on Worcester’s main roster to nine as the second-placed side bid to keep themselves in the title race.

Meanwhile, Alex Owumi is hoping his record as Wolves’ all-time leading scorer will stand for years to come.

The captain took his tally to 1,546 points in Sunday’s 95-90 triumph at Plymouth Raiders, overtaking the total set by Anthony Paez during his stay between 2007 and 2009.

Owumi said: “I think it’s a great achievement to be leading scorer on any team at any level, it just shows the hard work and dedication.

“I love the accolade and the attention but I’ve had some great point guards to help get me the ball and a good coach.

“I am happy to get the record because it wasn’t something I was thinking about when I first came here in 2012. It’s something I thought about a couple of games ago when somebody told me about it — but I’m happy I’ve done it.

“It’s great to see all the hard work pay off and hopefully this record can last for years.”

Point guard Chavis Holmes has been selected in the latest BBL team of the week after scoring 19 points against Plymouth, as well as claiming nine rebounds and making seven assists.

Guede was named as one of seven players off the bench.
