WORCESTER Wolves are chasing a hat-trick of victories over British Basketball League basement boys Surrey United tonight (7.30pm) as they seek to continue their impressive run of form.

Paul James’ side have won their last seven games in all competitions, including six in the league to keep the pressure on leaders Newcastle Eagles.

Wolves have also become a formidable force at the University Arena and can record their 10th victory of the season at the Hylton Road venue tonight.

One of those came against Surrey, 82-68 in October, while Worcester also triumphed 78-62 in Guildford in November.

Head coach James said: “It’s another match on paper that we should win but we’ve got to go out there and perform.

“No game has been easy this year whatsoever. It’s a real banana skin and we’ve got to apply ourselves properly and make sure we perform to the best of our ability and get the job done.

“There should be no fear if we just show up and play and don’t lower our level. Sometimes you’re hesitant about complacency setting in.

“We have won seven in a row and we want to continue that and we’ve got a great opportunity to do that against Surrey.

“In the last few games we have had fantastic crowds, which has certainly helped us in those close games and hopefully it will be the same again.”

Tonight’s match comes just 24 hours before Wolves continue the defence of their BBL Trophy crown at Leicester Riders.

While they are two games in a short period of time, James is not about to rest players for the Surrey clash.

“I don’t think I’m going to change things up too much or rest players,” he said. “It’s very important that we keep that continuity and consistency going rather than start messing around with line-ups.

“We want to make sure we go into that Leicester game off the back of a win and to do that we just need to keep playing the way we have been.”

Forward Kalil Irving could miss out against Surrey after dislocating his shoulder in training, although the injury is not a major concern.

James explained: “He popped his shoulder in training the other day, it’s an injury he had a couple of years back so we’re hoping it’s not too bad.

“Knowing Kalil, he’s a key component of our team and he’ll be ready to play.”
