PAUL James is looking forward to this week’s crunch clash with London Lions after a fine 90-87 win at Sheffield Sharks in the British Basketball League.

Boosted by a sensational second-half display from new signing Josh Cameron, Wolves emerged victorious following a rousing comeback in South Yorkshire.

The first chance for home fans to see Cameron don a Wolves vest will come on Friday evening at the University of Worcester Arena when Lions are the visitors in the BBL Cup quarter-finals (7.30pm).

James admitted: “This will be a massive match for us and it will be good to see the Williams brothers, Jamal and Kai, coming back to town.

“Sheffield was huge for us — to do what we did, on the road and against a side coming off two big wins, shows we have plenty to offer this year.”

After a ponderous start, Wolves trailed 61-48 midway through the third quarter.

Cameron was on the scoresheet for the first time with a triple before back- court partner Jay Couisnard did likewise.

By the close of the period, the pair combined for a further 13 points and the gap closed to 69-65.

A double of baskets for Cameron put the visitors 88-85 in front with less than a minute remaining before Sharks’ top scorer Mike Cook replied.

With seconds left, Cook missed with a shot that could have taken the win, but Worcester and their fans were left to celebrate.

James said: “We always seem to have close games in Sheffield, though it certainly didn’t look that way at half- time.

“But we’re growing as a team and had to keep believing. We dug in, got some key stops and got our reward.”

The aggressive Perris Blackwell scored 21 points and took 14 rebounds.

James added: “Jay and Perris had big games, as did Ashton (Khan). He’s getting better with every game as he understands how to run the team.

“Josh needed the first 10 minutes or so to get used to the level of play.

“After that he had a fantastic offensive display to put up 20 points. No one can grumble about that.”
