POINT guard Ashton Khan believes Worcester Wolves have got the confidence to go on and win the BBL Trophy after stunning Newcastle Eagles.

Wolves host Glasgow Rocks at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow (6.30pm), knowing a victory will set up a semi-final against Newcastle.

And Khan is optimistic his side can go all the way after ending the league leaders’ 28-match winning streak with a 94-80 victory last week.

“The win over Newcastle has given us a massive amount of confidence going into that BBL Trophy game tomorrow,” he said.

“We are really locked in and focused to try to go as far as we can in the competition.

“To win a trophy in my first season would be amazing and it would put the cherry on top of how well this season has gone for me.”

Khan feels Wolves have become Newcastle’s kryptonite, having won seven of their last 10 meetings, and they are keen to take advantage.

“I think they turn up to the arena and think this is the place where they usually lose, so they are a little afraid of us,” he said.

“So we let that momentum carry us through the game and I feel like the crowd also played a big part. It was the best team basketball we have played this season.

“The coach did a great job preparing us for the game and Jay Cousinard talked to us about what we should do and we just executed everything really well.”

Toronto-born Khan, who arrived at Wolves in the summer, added: “To end Newcastle’s 28-match winning streak is the huge confidence booster we needed for the rest of the season and hopefully we can win some more big games.

“Teams will be thinking, ‘Wow, they beat Newcastle and not only by four points, but by 14 and pretty much controlled the game’, so they know they will have to bring their A game to play us.

“But we believe we can win the Trophy, which will be huge for not only us, but for the fans too.”
