HEAD coach Paul James has branded Worcester Wolves’ BBL Trophy quarter-final clash against Glasgow Rocks at the University of Worcester Arena tomorrow (6.30pm) as their “biggest game of the season”.

Wolves have fond memories of facing Glasgow in the competition, having defeated them in the final at the Emirates Arena in 2014, and James is hoping for a repeat of that cup run this season.

James said he was delighted to get a home draw against a “vastly-improved” Rocks side but he insisted it was now up to his players to seize their opportunity.

“It is our biggest game of the season, without a doubt,” he said. “The whole point that we play any sport is to try to get to finals and win things, so if you get to a quarter-final you have got to get through it.

“It is a bonus that we are playing at home and hopefully it is going to be another big crowd here.

“We haven’t played Glasgow since the opening two or three weeks of the season when both teams were finding their way but they are vastly improved and so are we, so it should be an exciting game.”

Wolves have won the last three meetings between the two teams, including a 92-85 victory in October when Spaniard Javier Mugica registered 26 points, but James insisted his side will need to be at their best again.

“I think they have only lost seven or eight games this season and have picked up some very good wins,” he said.

“They are very strong on their own floor, so hopefully we have got a slight advantage as we are playing at home and will have our crowd behind us.”

James’ side will face British Basketball League leaders Newcastle Eagles in a two-legged semi-final if they beat Glasgow.

He added: “The BBL Trophy is the first piece of silverware this club have ever won, so it is something we would like to do again.

“We would certainly like to get back to a final and I think, the way things are now, the opportunity presents itself nicely.

“If we can produce the sort of performance we did last Friday (against Newcastle), I don’t see why we can’t progress to the semi-finals.

“And then, who knows, we might be able to keep our special run going against Newcastle.”
