WORCESTER Wolves have bolstered their ranks with the capture of three “very exciting” players keen to make an impact in the upcoming British Basketball League campaign.

Marek Klassen, Deondre McWhorter and Trevor Setty have joined Wolves and head coach Paul James says the trio will “form the spine” of his team next season.

But the signings mean American forwards Perris Blackwell and Jay Couisnard will not be returning to Worcester for the forthcoming campaign.

Klassen was one of the outstanding point guards in the BBL during the 2015/16 campaign having averaged 17.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and an impressive 8.1 assists per game after joining Leeds Force at the midway point in the season.

McWhorter will arrive at the University of Worcester Arena from Georgetown College in the United States where he picked up many accolades and was voted the NAIA player of the year.

The 6ft 9in American forward finished the season with impressive stats of 18.4 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

Wolves’ third signing of the summer is no stranger to the BBL and many will feel that he has unfinished business in the UK.

Setty, who is a former Pikeville University graduate, makes the move to Worcester having previously played with Surrey Scorchers and Plymouth University Raiders.

More recently 6ft 8in Setty, who can play either at guard or forward, has been playing in Australia for the Mandurah Magic in the State Basketball League where he averaged 23.8 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Wolves boss James said: “We have been working very hard to bring three very exciting players to the club.

“Whilst they will form the spine of the team in three important positions, they will all be able to contribute in different ways.”

Managing director Mick Donovan says Wolves will be announcing more signings along with their individual expectations in the "coming weeks".

“Every team in the BBL will be planning to improve during the coming season,” he added.

“That is certainly the case at the Worcester Wolves and our goal is to win silverware.

“We clearly believe that the first three signings have the character and ability to help us to achieve that.”
