HEAD coach Paul James says he is starting to see “light at the end of the tunnel” for Worcester Wolves as they welcome Bristol Flyers to the University of Worcester Arena tonight (7.30pm).

Wolves ended a run of four straight defeats with a morale-boosting 91-77 victory at Leeds Force last Friday.

James insisted his side were “not out of the mire yet” as they sit in seventh place with four wins from 12 games in the British Basketball League. But he feels Wolves are moving in the right direction as they look ahead to back-to-back home games with basement boys Bristol.

“I can’t remember being in a situation where we have lost four in a row,” James said.

“But I always felt we had the players and potential to break that losing trend, so it was only going to be a matter of time before we did that.

“It has been a stuttering start to the season and we are still not out of the mire yet as there is a long way to go.

“But at least now we can see we have got pieces in the right place and an opportunity to move forward.

“Hopefully, there is now light at the end of the tunnel in the way we want to play and we can make some steps towards a series of wins to start climbing the league table.”

After defeating Leeds, Wolves aim to claim back-to-back wins for the first time this season and secure only their third home success.

They will be big favourites to win as Bristol languish at the foot of the table after 10 straight defeats but James has urged his players not to underestimate them.

“I don’t think we have won back-to-back games all season, which has been a massive frustration as the opportunities have been there,” he said.

“This would be a great time for us to go out there and produce the same sort of team performance, commitment and quality minutes from players.

“You can look at Bristol’s results and say they have lost their last 10 games but I look at the fact they played Leicester and were leading the game going into the fourth quarter (before losing 79-65), so we are not going to underestimate them by any means.

“They are a competitive team and while they are down you want to keep them down and I think that’s what teams have been doing with us.”

James, whose side also host Bristol on Friday, December 16, added: “Everybody is either fit or coming back to full fitness now, which is great.

“We are just looking forward to the next game. We are long overdue a win at home so we want to put that right as well.”
