WORCESTER Wolves are expected to “rest” power forward Maurice Walker for their British Basketball League clash at Plymouth Raiders on Sunday (4pm).

Walker missed Wolves’ 126-97 thrashing of high-flying Newcastle Eagles and 88-72 win at Glasgow Rocks last weekend through injury.

Despite a “slight hamstring strain” James admitted the 6ft 10in Canadian could have played in both games.

But with Wolves keen to be in the best shape possible for the play-offs he said it was not worth risking Walker.

“We would like him to play a few games before the play-offs and there is an outside chance he will play this weekend,” James said.

“But if he is not 100 per cent then we won’t risk him this weekend either.

“We have still got three games left after this one to get him back into the flow of things.

“It is very important everybody is fully fit and ready to go for the play-offs.

“He has got a slight hamstring strain and sports therapists are working with him.

“If it was a win-or-bust game he would play but we are not in that situation so we have got a bit of a luxury to rest him.”

Nine league victories in a row have secured Wolves’ play-off place.

Though wary of injuries in the final four regular season games James does not want an end to their winning streak.

“Winning is a habit as it breeds confidence and that’s what we have done over the last 13 or 14 weeks,” he said.

“We have built that confidence and belief in each other and want to keep that going as long as we can.

“We want to keep playing the way we have been and hopefully that is going to be good enough to win the rest of our games.”

Wolves have struggled against Raiders this season, losing 94-81 and 87-84 as well as 179-168 on aggregate in the Trophy semi-finals.

But James insists the “team spirit is absolutely fantastic” and they are determined to chalk up a 10th straight league victory.

“Plymouth is always a tough place to go as they are very good on their own floor,” James added.

“But we will be going all out to win the game. The team spirit is absolutely fantastic right now.

"Our guys are enjoying playing for each other and when you have got that you are going to win a lot of games.”
