A DOCTOR says it is an honour to have been nominated for a Worcestershire Health and Social Care Award.

Dr Asim Nawaz, a GP at Barbourne Health Centre, has been nominated by readers for the Care Hero Award.

Nominating him, reader Nigel Stinton wrote: “I have had few dealings with doctor Nawaz and he has always shown the most caring attitude that I have ever seen in a doctor.

"In the summer of 2019 I had a leg infection that caused my fall in the garden, and he was most insistent that I received the best and prompt service from the hospital and I believe his close attention could have saved my leg.

"He goes out of his way to do the best for his patients and I really think that without his intervention my leg infections could have caused life changing problems.”

Dr Nawaz said: “Being the first member of my family to get to medical school was a huge achievement and a proud moment for us all.

"Having graduated from Leicester in 2002, I completed my medical rotation in the Midlands.

"It was during my time at Hereford County Hospital that I decided to venture into the challenge of becoming a GP.

"I qualified nearly nine years ago and have worked in Worcestershire for the past four years, where I have settled down with my young family.

"It is the most thrilling and dynamic career anyone could wish for.

"It has been a privilege to be a GP and has been far the most gratifying career path that I have taken. Being in the unique position of being able to resolve people’s worries in their time of need has been both rewarding and satisfying and has truly inspired me to work harder at this job so that I can be a better GP to my patients.

“It is an honour to be nominated for such an award by the people you care for. I couldn’t do my job effectively without the support and collaboration of all of my community colleagues. I genuinely believe that general practice is the future of the NHS.

“And I feel that being passionate about the care we give towards our patients has made NHS the greatest healthcare system in the world and one that we, as healthcare professionals, are immensely proud of.

“I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to whoever put me up for such an award and to let them know that I have been humbled by their consideration."
