THE number of Covid patients in Worcestershire has leveled out, having not risen or dropped for weeks, latest NHS data shows.

NHS figures show there were 61 patients with Covid-19 at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust sites - Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch - on June 1.

On that date there were no Covid patients in an ICU bed fitted with a ventilator.

These numbers have stayed the same for weeks - the last time it being above this number was May 12, when there were 77 Covid patients and one on a ventilator.

Meanwhile NHS data reveals there has been two coronavirus deaths announced for county hospitals this week.

The two deaths both came at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust sites, bringing its total to 1,083.

The number of deaths at Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust sites has stayed at 74.

In total there have been 1,157 covid deaths at Worcestershire hospitals during the pandemic.

Public Health England (PHE) figures show there were 347 cases in the week up to May 27 - a fall of 23.6 per cent on the previous week. 

The data also shows:

 

  • Worcester saw a rise of 30.9 per cent in the seven days to May 27 with 67 cases recorded.
  • Wychavon, which includes Evesham and Droitwich, was down 7.1 per cent to 65 cases.
  • Malvern Hills saw a fall of 32 per cent, to 51 recorded cases.
  • Redditch saw a fall of 34.4 per cent to 42 recorded cases.
  • Bromsgrove saw a fall of 18.2 per cent, to 63 cases.
  • And Wyre Forest, which includes Kidderminster, saw a fall of 16.9 per cent to 59 cases.

 

The latest vaccination figures, up to May 31, reveal that 87.1 per cent of Worcestershire adults have had a first dose of a Covid vaccine, 83.7 per cent have had a second, while 69.9 per cent have had a booster.

We previously reported that Worcestershire virologist, Professor Lawrence Young, had shared his concerns about where we were heading with Covid cases.

Professor Young said: While it is a good picture at the moment, the worry is the winter.
