A FAST trade is always good at any auction and RG & RB Williams end of January sale at the Ross Auction Rooms had 245 registered bidders, 65 absentee bidders and over eight successful phone bidders.

The Tennessee buyer was on his usual circuit having been to the Ross Rooms on a number of occasions together with buyers from a wide spread area of the country, London, Sussex, Exeter, the Cotswolds and South Wales.

Auctioneers Roger Garlick, Martyn Evans and Will Probert commenced in two rooms at 10am and 822 lots were cleared by 1.45pm.

As is usual, the collectables and genuine antiques had a flying trade.

Likewise the uncatalogued items pine and outside effects, all under cover sold briskly.

Following the pictures and glass, the ceramics sold well with a Chinese vase up to £140.

Likewise, plenty of interest for the jewellery with an 18ct gold and diamond crossover ring £142, silver had plenty of followers, a pair of George III wine coasters (1775) £280.

Brass had the attraction of a set of five copper/"taystock" jugs, a pair cherub table lamps and figures £370.

Tunbridge ware castle front work box £300, two boxes textiles £190, vintage clothes £130.

The clock section had an early 19th century mahogany drop dial fussee wall clock £440.

In the furnishings a wide range of periods and a collection of Chinese lots selling up to £290.

A 19th century oak library table £310, Victorian mahogany cylinder bureau £225.
