A BEWDLEY knitter and her mum have self-published an unconventional knitting and crochet book entitled The Woolly Prawn.

Sian Goulding and her mum Jenny Every hope to inspire a new generation of knitters.

The book is a family affair with Jenny's nephew’s girlfriend, Katie Walter, doing the design and illustrations and sons-in-law Duncan Woods and Jonathan Goulding helping with photography.

The inspiration for the book came after Jenny, from Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire, taught 35-year-old Sian to knit but they struggled to find inspiring and appealing pattern books with a selection of items that Sian wanted to make.

The Woolly Prawn contains 16 patterns and provides tips on how to adapt them.

It also explores the wider world of knitting and crochet.

Sian said: “For me, knitting and crochet isn’t about having wonderful technique or worrying about tension squares.

“I like the experimental side of things, trying out different colours and effects and simply creating things and I hope that’s what comes across in our book.”
