A KIDDERMINSTER College student is one step closer to her dream of appearing on stage in London's West End.

Amy Taylor has been accepted for a three-year degree course at the prestigious Bird College of Dance and Theatre Performance.

It was a double celebration for the 18-year-old, who passed all her course modules, which included choreography and musical theatre with distinction to receive a BTEC national diploma.

Amy, who loves the feel of being on stage, said she was excited about attending Bird College because of its reputation and was looking forward to living near the capital.

She added: "When you go to shows you always see people in them that have been to Bird College."

The performer has already had a taste of the spotlight, appearing as an extra in the Channel 4 show, No Angels and the film, This is England, directed by Shane Meadows, which is released next year, as well as an advertisement for insurance firm, Churchill.

Amy, who had to perform a monologue at her audition and also had an interview, said it felt "wonderful" when she found out she had been given a place.

She added: "It's hard when you want something that badly. You feel really nervous but it was great when I found out I had been accepted. We had a big celebration."

Amy, who lives in Stourbridge, said she would like a career in musical theatre although, at present, she was keeping her options open. She added: "I'm going to try my hand at everything and just see what happens."

The student has starred in many college productions, including Aladdin, and performed with both Stourbridge Amateur Operatic Group and Stourbridge Pantomime Company.

She is also a keen dancer and has attended Davis School of Dance, where she has done ballet, tap, disco, jazz and swing, since she was three.

Her proud mum, Jackie, said: "She has worked extremely hard. She is very committed and puts 100 per cent into everything she does. I know she is going to go far."
