TWO pop-tastic Kidderminster College students are making their mark on the music industry with the release of their debut single.

X Marks the Girl are 18-year-olds Imogen Davies and Megan Tranter, who have recently released Get Your Hands Off in aid of two charities close to their hearts.

Proceeds from the single will go to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, after a friend of Megan’s little sister had an operation there, and Stop It Now, a charity Imogen’s dad works for which prevents child sexual abuse.

The lively, energetic pair have just completed a two-year music performance course at Kidderminster College and are heading back to complete diplomas, where they will learn skills to manage themselves.

Megan said: “My mum came up with the name, she said ‘if you ever do a girl band you’ve got to be call this’ and we really liked it.

“We formed in 2010, we always used to write songs for music GCSE together. Then we joined a soul band in high school and thought we should sing together.”

Megan and Imogen met in Halesowen, where they are originally from, but admitted their first impressions were not good.

Megan added: “When we first met we absolutely hated each other. It was a petty girl thing.”

The duo have performed a number of times at Birmingham’s LG Arena as part of Forum Live, supporting Beyonce, One Direction, Steps and Westlife.

Describing their music Megan said it was “very, very pop” and said their music is for 11 to 19 year olds.

They are influenced by the likes of Katy Perry and Justin Bieber and are currently writing new material while they take time off from performing live.
