A BAND from Kidderminster have won a competition to open a popular music festival.
Five-piece indie group, Plastic Scene, will open Lakefest Livewire in Ludlow on August 11 after pipping Brighton act Frankie Furlow and Worcester duo Alex Rainsford and Prism to the prize.
Online coverage in the Shuttle last week – and subsequent votes from readers – helped the band come out on top in the public vote when the winner was announced on Monday, June 20.
Guitarist Joel Workman said: "I think we were all extremely surprised to find out we had won.
"The fact that we received most votes showed that people really do like our music, which gives us a huge confident boost.
"The competition has also proved how well our local community promotes young, local talent, which is something everyone should keep on doing.
"I would like to say thank you to the Shuttle for sharing the link on the website, this undoubtedly helped us receive the most votes!
"Particular thanks also goes to Peter Barnett of Hopfest and Music in the Hall, Worley’s at the Swan, Kevin Wrench of Wyre Forest Music Scene, and obviously everyone who voted!
"We can't wait to open Lakefest."
Plastic Scene – who are made up of Joel, Ben Ludlow, Lucy Ludlow, Jake Mayall, Sam Watkins – are performing at the Cock and Magpie in Bewdley on Thursday, June 23.
