Performed by the Carpet Trades Musical Theatre Company.
I certainly did ‘consider myself at home’ listening to those wonderful songs in this perennial favourite.
Directed by Darren Richards, the show could not fail with such a superb cast. Nigel Preece, once again was brilliant as Fagin, and his Reviewing the Situation was a highlight.
I have never heard As Long As He Needs Me sung any better than Sarah Richards’ rendition, as Nancy, as she put so much emotion in it.
Chris Payne was a very nasty Bill Sykes, and surely must have a sore throat by the end of the run, literally growling his way through My Name.
Julian Richards was ideal as Mr Bumble, blustering and funny and he sang so well.
Of course, the children were a delight, led by Daniel Richards, in a great performance as the Artful Dodger, and there was a sweet little Oliver, played delightfully by Callum Clarke – in his debut role for the society.
Other notable performances were given by Melanie Greenfield as Mrs Sowerberry, and Zoe Darks and the Widow Corney.
As usual, the chorus were spot on and the criers were excellent in Who Will Buy?
Carpet Trades Musical Theatre Company has produced another winner. I hope they will Be Back Soon.
