Actor and comedian Abdullah Azfal and Union J singer Jaymi Hensley have missed out on places in the Celebrity MasterChef semi-final.

Azfal said he hopes to be a better cook in 10 years, after he got the chop from the show when his spring rolls and tandoori roast dinner failed to make the grade.

Hensley also struggled with his his roasted figs wrapped in parma ham and roasted duck breasts.

His elimination means Gogglebox star the Rev Kate Bottley and actor Brian Bovell survived to cook another day.

Bottley stunned judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace and former MasterChef contestants Andi Peters, Lisa Faulkner and Sophie Thompson with her turbot with celeriac mash and treacle and stem ginger tart.

Bovell also delighted with his callaloo soup and spiced chicken and sweet potato mash.

After he got the boot, Afazal said: “I’m 27. Maybe in 10 years’ time I will actually be a very good cook. You never know.”

Hensley added: “I’m completely proud of myself because I thought I’d have been a disaster from the start.”

Bottley and Bovel now join Angellica Bell, Rebecca Adlington, Ulrika Jonsson,  Lesley Garrett, Henri Leconte and Dev Griffin in the semi-final.
