“The only thing for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing” - Edmund Burke

"What is our greatest value in being British? Is it our eccentrically sophisticated sense of humour and antics? Is it our excessive history of customs and traditions? Is it our progressive taste in music? Or, on the other hand, is it our modesty in victory?

The greatest asset of Britain is compassion. The act of selfless love, dedication and passion that is demonstrated by the brave, the courageous and the inspirational.

All over Britain there are thousands, if not, millions of unsung heroes who everyday give up their free time to help others, from those who take on responsibilities in their communities to increase cohesion, to those who proudly march into unknown territories to conquer conflict, and those who put their own life’s on the line, to protect someone else’s. All of those groups of Britons are the true Prides of Britain - and so deserve to be praised.

As I am writing this entry, I am also watching the Pride of Britain Awards - what a truly inspiring feeling to see so many people who are prepared to go only where eagles dare to achieve truly groundbreaking successes?. - We too can be like that!

In today’s society, is it very easy to be belittled, to be left in despair and be thrown by tragic events that inevitably happen to us, however it takes true bravery to overcome these events, and it is even more, in-fact, it is very, very courageous to be willing to make a difference to the World because of the events that have happened to you. This week I became involved with a charity called FIXERS UK, a charity that focuses on young people tackling social issues such as drugs, homelessness, and prejudices of all kinds. Which encourages young people to make their mark and be part of the Fixers Movement, led by young people - for young people, for everyone.

In Britain today, it is vitally important for us all to become interested in our nation, to take on social responsibilities, and to become an active member of our society because it is only through full engagement can "horror stories" can be turned into "fairy tales", and it is only through taking an active role in our society can we really ever start to see a change that not only pushes us forward as a nation, but also reminds us of how great Britain really is.

The greatest asset that is left to be mentioned is the fact that anyone can make a difference! On the Pride of Britain, we saw a diverse range of people being awarded for their outstanding achievements. There were people of a diversity of races, ages, genders and backgrounds, people who performed heroically when they achieved an opportunity, and people who people who performed heroically when they found themselves in that opportunity.

However, the question that remains is - what are you going to do to be a Pride of Britain? Are you going to get the opportunity? Or are you going to wait for the opportunity to get you?"
