MORE than £5,000 was raised at this year’s Stourport Carnival which has been distributed to seven groups and charities to help the people of Stourport.

Stourport Carnival committee has given money to York Street Medical Centre, Europa Venture Scouts, Stourport Fire Station, Fast First Aid group, Stourport Rugby Club, Stourport Wesley Methodist Church and Centre Wings Marshals.

The medical centre has used the money to buy specialist equipment that helps to measure how much oxygen is a patient’s blood and their pulse rate.

The pulse oximeter can be worn as a wrist watch throughout the day and as a patient sleeps.

They are particularly useful for patients with breathing difficulties including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Information gathered from the oximeter can help doctors make an accurate diagnosis and identify patients who need treatment.

Chairman Pete Roberts said: “We have donated to York Street Medical Centre for the first time to benefit the town’s people and to thank the doctors who had a float in the carnival.”
