STAFF at a carpet factory in Kidderminster have been praised for the actions they took after discovering a fire on the premises.
The blaze broke out in a weaving loom at Worcester Road-based Victoria Carpets shortly after 9pm last night and two fire crews from Kidderminster fire station attended.
They arrived to find staff had used eight foam extinguishers, plus a dry powder and a carbon dioxide extinguisher to tackle the fire and had evacuated the premises.
Firefighters then used thermal imaging equipment to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and on-site ventilation equipment to help clear the smoke.
Watch commander Len Rees from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Staff at the factory took exactly the right actions prior to the arrival of the fire service and they certainly prevented any escalation of the incident.”
He confirmed no one was injured as a result of the fire although the affected loom is likely to be out of action for some time while it is stripped down and repaired.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an overheated bearing in the carpet loom.
