STRICT visiting restrictions put in place last week have been relaxed in areas not currently affected by norovirus at Kidderminster Hospital.

Anyone who has been exposed to illness or has been ill themselves in the last 72 hours should not visit the hospital.

Visiting is still restricted to immediate family members only and a maximum of two visitors per patient.

An outbreak of the highly contagious infection had occurred in one of the wards at the hospital but a Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust spokeswoman said the situation was currently improving.

Helen Blanchard, chief nursing officer, said: “Norovirus is very common during the winter months. We are making progress with this outbreak but this winter we would continue to ask anyone with any symptoms of norovirus infection such as diarrhoea or vomiting to stay at home rather than come into hospital.”
